What is your training style:My training style is that the client knows best about himself, but I'm the walking talking A-Z on all things health, fitness and wellness. This way I offer suggestions and the client responds. One of the biggest barriers stopping clients moving forward is in fact their own beliefs regarding health + fitness. By adopting this relationship style, I don't confront these beliefs head-on (which could cause resistance), but subtly enhance the client's awareness over time.
What in your opinion is the biggest mistake people make while working out:That they don't really know where they are heading or even what they are doing. Many will copy what others do and you see this in gyms all the time - everyone making the same mistakes, particularly with abs. Exercises are either too fast, not carried out over a full range of motion or simply inappropriate for that person's body shape. Plus very little regard is given to overall muscle balance / program design.
Do you encourage your clients to stop smoking / quit drinking, if yes - how:For me health, fitness + wellness is a continuum, and we all lie someone along it. I like to help the client identify where they are now, and where they would like to be, with pit stops along the way. For many, this means making exercise a habit and developing through the FITT formula. So later, once exercise is no longer a chore, I would introduce topics like smoking + drinking for discussion and demonstrate how they are at cross-purposes with their exercise + fitness beliefs.
