Why have you become a trainer:I became a personal trainer to help clients achieve their fitness-related goals and ultimately maintain an active, healthy lifestyle. Exercising and healthy eating can be overwhelming and I want to show clients how to take control of their health. Since knowing what to do and actually doing it are two different things, my goal as a personal trainer is to teach clients how to successfully implement a nutrition and fitness action plan into their everyday lives.
What other skills do you bring to the table besides your training experience:In addition to almost 4 years of experience as a personal trainer, I have been a registered dietitian (RD) since 2002. A master's degree in nutrition, along with the RD credential, allows me to offer expert nutrition advice as well as personal training services. Nutrition counseling is integrated into personal training sessions and offered as an adjunct to personal training sessions depending on each clients individualized goals.
How would you help an overweight client lose weight:First, I would ask the client to maintain a 3-day food and activity record. At one of our initial meetings, I would then measure ht and wt, and discuss personal goals, physical limitations, barriers to weight loss, etc...Using all of this information, the client and I would develop specific, achievable "mini-goals". We would then implement a nutrition and fitness plan to achieve these goals. Progress would be periodically assessed, and the nutrition/fitness plan would be routinely updated.
