Why have you become a trainer:While teaching & studying at the University of Alabama for my Masters degree, I began helping out some of my students individually and found that I really enjoyed the one on one experience. The ability to customize the exercise program to their specific needs was rewarding and satisfying for me as I watched them achieve goals they never thought possible. I realized then that this was a career I was passionate about and could do for a long time. Exercise should be fun not drudgery.
Describe your own workout program:I truly enjoy the crosstraining approach to fitness. Doing a variety of activities keeps me from getting bored, burned out, and injured. I regularly teach at a local ymca several group exercise classes (yoga, pilates, seniors, spinning, muscle conditioning, and step). I also enjoy the outdoors so walking, hiking, and running are convenient as I live next to a nature preserve and state park. I am not particularly rigid about my exercise other than the fact that I purpose to do something every day
What do you think about the latest trends in the fitness industry:I think what I love most about the fitness industry is the ever evolving toys, programs, and methods for approaching fitness. There's always something new and it's wonderful to have so many creative innovators in the business keeping us ever challenged. Some things are gimmicky and fade out fast but others are popular and have proven their longevity. Who would have thought that stepping up & down on a box (step aerobics) would be so popular and maintain momentum the way it has?
