What do you think about the latest trends in the fitness industry:I believe the latest trends are small group training, and one-on-one training. With personalized attention, clients can meet their goals in a more timely, and effective manner. With small group training, you still get the benefit of having a trainer, but share in the cost with a few other people. Pilates is also becoming stronger as the middle age clientele wish to avoid high impact activities, yet still provide a challenge for the mind and body.
In general, please describe your experience:I began my career in corporate fitness. I fell in love with working with adults who wanted to change their lifestyles. In the past twenty years I have worked with cardiac rehab, seniors, athletes, diabetics, and mostly with baby boomers. My ability to technically break down an exercise with explanations and corrections help people become more successful. In my spare time, I lecture for personal fitness trainer certifications. IDEA considers my credentials to be that of a Master Trainer.
How would you help an overweight client lose weight:I would have the client set some short term goals which were specific, measurable, action-oriented, & realistic. There would be an accountability to help the individual stay on track. A Behavioral contract would be considered if the client was open to the idea. I would provide a registered dietitian to meet with the client to help with the eating portion or weight loss. The exercise portion would consist of cardiovascular work, weight training, flexibility, and balance training.
