Why have you become a trainer:I have always been interested in fitness since high school. My family has a history of obesity and heart problems. I refused to go down that path. I just started out exercising myself and fell in love with the benefits. My passion for fitness led me to start learning more and more about the field. I love helping people achieve their goals and being a personal trainer is the most rewarding job I could have asked for.
In general, please describe your experience:My experience includes: Senior fitness, hypertension, obesity, fibromyalgia, pre & post-natal, diabetes, sport specific, post surgical, and youth fitness. I have experience as a wellness director for the active older adult population at the YMCA in Westborough, MA. I am currently self-employed in personal training with a degree in Exercise Science (2002) and two personal training certifications (NSCA & AFAA). I also have experience in group exercise.
How would you help an overweight client lose weight:To those who are interested in losing weight I have to actually sit down with them to discuss their goals and the reasons why they want to lose weight. It is a difficult journey and I explain step by step how to get there and what exactly it takes. Nutrition is a very important variable in weight loss and I help establish a lifestyle change for the client and stick with them every step of the way. Everyone is different and I believe you have to establish a different strategy for everyone.
