What do you think about the latest trends in the fitness industry:Some of the trends have validity and can offer new variety to a stale workout, but many of the trends just make a lot of advertisers rich and exercisers injured. One of my 'favorite' trends are the 'ab' devices sold on TV. Especially when they show an impressive looking graph comparing a basic crunch to a decline full sit up. OF COURSE it recruits more muscles, but that doesn't mean it's realistic for the general population or that the basic crunch is ineffective.
How would you help an overweight client lose weight:Take initial assessment: HR, BP, upper body strength, ab strength, hamstring/low back flexibility, bodyfat, weight, tape measurements, etc. Once baseline is discovered, we set goals which are specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, time-based. Next is a nutrition appt to discuss food plan according to likes/dislikes, daily food log, daily exercise log, and to review my Nutrition in a Nutshell article. Each time we meet, we discuss what's working, what isn't, and get in a great workout!
