What is your training style:I mix strength training and pilates with cardio and stretching. I like my clients to exercise their muscles and limbs through a full range of motion, slowly and with proper form. Proper form helps reduce injury and increases flexibility. Stretching is also important. I am a licensed massage therapist so I know the importance of having healthy, flexible muscles and tendons. I also know that regular bodywork is essential to athletes.
What in your opinion is the biggest mistake people make while working out:Just going through the motions. In order to get superior results you must be focused and fully aware of what you are doing when you exercise. No distractions and no half-hearted sessions. I call it a "Zen Workout". That's when you are fully present, in the moment, through the whole session. Eating properly after a workout is essential if you want to get full benefits from training. Many people think they can eat the way they used to after each session. That does not work.
How would you help an overweight client lose weight:I first determine their body and energy type. Then I have my clients journal their food and drink intake, times, weather and emotions that they experience just before meals or snacks. Most of the time my overweight clients need to increase their fruit and vegetable intake. This automatically reduces their consumption of simple (or bad) carbohydrates. Eating habits need to change. The change must include types of foods and quantities eaten, yet remain healthy enough to last a lifetime.
