Trainer Experience Questions:

What is your training style:

I start with a Fitness Profile in order to assess a client's current physical condition, determine goals, and see how best to achieve those goals. I then design an eating model (if weight loss or gain is an issue) based on eating fewer calories than you burn and eating healthy options. I also design a workout program consisting of cardio, strength, and flexibility. I assign the client the cardio and I work with him or her personally on the other aspects.

Why have you become a trainer:

I've been interested in fitness for myself since I was 30 years old. (I'm now 60.) About 7 or 8 years ago after almost 35 years in sales, I decided to get my certification and do what I love the most. The training business has been a real blessing to me and I hope to my clients as well. There is nothing that compares to watching clients get healthier and stronger. I work harder now than I ever have and love it more. I never dread the next day.

How would you help an overweight client lose weight:

After determining a client's metabolic rate based on their age, height, weight, and activity level, I would design an eating and workout program for them. If I do my job correctly, they should be eating 500 calories a day less than they are burning, giving them a 3500 calories weekly deficit which should result in about a pound of weight loss every week. At the same time, we want to build muscle since muscle helps them with everyday tasks and is much more metabolically efficient than fat.
