Why have you become a trainer:My reason started out 9 years ago when I was downsized out of "Corporate America". I needed to get out of the stressful work world and into something that was good for me. The choice was easy, as a personal trainer, I have no stress and I'm in great physical condition. However, the added benefit is that I get the opportunity to meet and help others and that's is extremely satisfying to me everyday.
What in your opinion is the biggest mistake people make while working out:The average person has no idea how to train to become fit, lose weight, or to become generally healthy. They do not challenge their muscles or their cardiovascular system well enough to have a positive impact. As a trainer, I have motivated many people enough to make them realize how challenging an 'good' workout needs to be in order to create change in their health, mindset and their physical body.
How would you help an overweight client lose weight:We would talk a lot about why they need to lose weight: longer, more enjoyable life with their spouse and children, reduced chance of diabetes, heart disease, joint disease, etc. Then we would start out slowly, avoiding both injury and poor attitude toward exercise. Maybe just walking for as long as they are physically able, then stretching and ultimately work up to the ability to workout on more challenging aerobic equipment such as a rower or stair master. Then add the resistance training.
