What in your opinion is the biggest mistake people make while working out?
"Mistake" is harsh, because it usually isn't deliberate, as this implies, but what people fail to do is finding and pushing through their exercise intensity threshold, whether doing a cardio or strength training workout. "Only when we leave our comfort zone do we grow as individuals." This goes for our bodies as well, as if we work out at a comfortable 75% of our appropriate intensity, the body remains placent, and the desired results are never seen.
What do you think about the latest trends in the fitness industry?
Unfortunately the fitness, supplements, and fitness infomercial industries are booming bigger than ever while the obesity and otherwise lifestyle related diseases epidemic are at an all time high. The fitness industry is currently not part of the solution and this must change. It is an exciting time for health and fitness research, we must do a better job applying this knowledge to those who need it promoting preventative medicine and wellness.
Do you think a personal trainer should be also a good salesman?
If we are talking about selling fitness and a healthy lifestyle, then absolutely! These things are a very difficult sell. We should be able to sell ourselves and services to promote fitness, but not at the expense of taking advantage of someone to make profit for a health club or oneself. We hear too many stories about someone training 3 times at a popular health club only to be pushed to buy another pack of 10 sessions in the end.
