General Member Information:
My Introduction:
Why have you become a trainer?
I began in college pursuing social work because I knew I wanted to help individuals improve their lifestyles. I changed my degree to exercise science because I found the field to be much more positive. Individuals that I work with are ready for change and proactive where social work clients are not necessarily ready for the changes that you can provide. I have truly found my niche in empowering others to overcoming obstacles and reaching their goals.
Have you done any volunteer work?
When I became certified to teach yoga, we were required to provide community service of yoga instruction to individuals who hadn't experienced yoga. Once those hours were completed, I started a yoga ministry at my church called Yo-God. In addition, I have participated in several events/opportunities around the community through a local organization called KC Cares. These duties included anything from preparing meals for families to accepting tickets at entertainment events.
How would you help an overweight client lose weight?
First, I would assess their current status. Then, we would determine what goals would be SMARTER: specific, measurable, action-oriented, realistic, timed, encouraging, and resourceful to that individual client. We would improve all aspects of their lifestyle including diet, exercise, sleep and stress management. We would continue with periodic assessments to monitor progress and make changes based on that progress or lack thereof.
