My Introduction:
What is your training style?
Most (but certainly not all) of my clients are older adults. While they certainly have much in common (having experienced similar milestones, experienced historic events, etc.) they are quite diverse and have unique perspectives. Each of them has his or her own special set of goals and challenges. I pay special attention to these factors in dealing with them and setting their programs and identify the learning style that works best for them.
Why should a client train with you?
I believe that my 1st responsibility as a trainer is to be a good listener; to understand what my client is going through both physically and mentally. My 2nd role as a trainer is that of a teacher; so you'll learn which muscles we're emphasizing, how form and technique play a role, and I'll try to tie it in to what you've already learned. I am also going to be one of your biggest cheerleaders (3rd role; motivator) as you overcome physical challenges and learn a new way to think about exercise!
In general, please describe your experience?
I am co-owner of The Training Zone, a personal fitness studio in Tucson, Arizona, and have been certified by the American Council on Exercise since 1990. I am a 1993 graduate of the University of Arizona and hold a bachelor's degree in Music Education. As a personal trainer, I develop programs for clients with varied fitness programs and goals, from the beginning exerciser to the very fit. Over my years of experience I have worked closely with special needs clients.
Who has been your biggest success story?
âI have had a strong desire for and commitment to fitness since 1991, when I received a gym membership as a Christmas gift. Maggie has been my personal trainer since 2003, and we have worked aggressively to combat the effects of osteoporosis, and we continue to work on balance, flexibility, core strength, and increased stamina. I asked her to promise that she âwonât ever let me quit.â I turned 81 in January of 2008, and I donât see her giving up on me any time soon.â â Geri M.
