To get referrals you need a referral program. Simply asking for a referral when you feel like it or when you remember that you need more patients/clients is simply not going to work. You need a referral system that you can plug into your practice and use right away.


Before You Joined Zegee

How can you implement a referral system:

  • Determine all point of contact with your patients during which you can remind them of the excellent quality care you provide and how it would help their friends, members and co-workers.
  • Create incentives for your current patients to send their friends your way.
  • Reward each referral with discounts.
  • Collect names, emails and phone numbers on your website.
  • Cross refer your patients with other health professional. Remember that a referral is based on need of the patient and not the reciprocity to the other health professional.
  • Run promotions and discount offers to encourage referrals.
  • Teach your patients ideas and "trick" on how to stay healthy that they can brag about when they are with their friends and family.
  • If you have others working for you, track their referrals and incentivise them to improve.
  • Network with as many health professionals as possible and spend time building rapport and relationships with them.
  • Give away audiobooks, DVD-s, e-Books to your patients so that they remind them of you and so that their friends see them.

How can you get started?

The first step in getting more referrals, making more money and getting more patients is to obtain clarity about your current situation, your future goals and strategy on how you get there. If your goal is to "get more referrals", then it will be difficult to reach similarly as with "getting more patients". If your goal is to collect names and emails on your website, ask every patients for referrals and introduce an incentive program for your current patients, then getting more referrals will happen automatically.

  • Get clarity
    Establishing a baseline is the first step. Just like with your patients - to help them you must first learn about them. In your practice you cannot improve what you cannot identify. Questions relating to your present situation enable you to establish goals and achieve your desired outcome. Zegee Community members have higher chance to achieve their goals simply because of the "pressure" from belonging to a community of like-minded people.
  • Learn about who your patients' friends are
    Learn from your patients about their friends by asking about them and writing it down in a referral book. This way you will get a better idea whether your current patients are good candidates for more referrals. If you treat a rare disease or condition than you will learn that a referral system for your current patients will be "rare" since their friends will most likely not get the same rare condition that your patients have. Having a website in which you can collect names and emails is an excellent tool. Give an incentive for your patients to do that - 30% off from next treatment.
  • Master customer service skills
    Just as with patients, your ego is holding you back from getting more referrals? Giving an impression that you always know everything does not convey sincerity and understanding. Giving your patients the credit for researching their condition on line will make them feel good. Shaking your patients' hand, smiling and saying "it's great to see you again, you look terrific" will also help. Psychology plays a critical part in how patients feel, so make sure you are aware of how you interact with your current patients. They will not send your friend to you if you say/do something that offends them, despite high quality of your care/outcome.
  • Use more technology
    Having an attractive website is a requirement today if you want to make more money, get more patients and get into other revenue-generating activities.
